Semester 2 Week 1

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday.
There are a couple of new lecturers who will be working with you this semester. Jessica, who will be teaching on Tuesdays and Aaron, who will be working alongside you in the classroom in the afternoons.
Cookery starts straight away on Monday. Svend Tolson is the cookery lecturer  - he is going to plan the cookery practicals around what the students want to cook. I think it will be a really interesting and hopefully fun term - I'm looking forward to coming into the kitchen and doing some sampling (please choose to make chocolate brownies - yum).

The cookery module is level 3, so keep in mind what Jill has said about getting stuck in, working hard and staying focused on your end goal. The are only 19 weeks until the end of the Polytech year!

Carpentry will continue for a couple of weeks to get projects and classwork finished. We will plan a celebration to recognise your fantastic achievements in carpentry.

Week 17, 18-22nd June, last week of the semester!!

The last week of the semester.
It's been a busy and very productive semester. It is really fantastic to go down to the L block workshop and see all the fabulous carpentry work - wooden toys, podium and frames for the Cadbury's festival, boxes, doors for the tool shed. The Trades students have really got on board with learning new skills and fine tuning them.

Tuesday  we put the roof on and lined 99% of the shed  - was a very productive day!!

On Wednesday Jill came in to congratulate everyone on their achievements and remind the students that level 3 starts next semester and the expectations for this. White coats were tried on and extras bought from Road materials. The class sat the food theory online assessment - it proved to be pretty challenging (yes, even for Clay!!). Hopefully next semester Svend will be able to help.

Thursday,  was a catchup day for some the others made the doors for the shed and a big clean up ready for the holidays!!

Week 16 11-15th June

Celebration to launch the Japanese garden!

A wonderful celebration was held down at L block. Certificates were proudly handed out and it was wonderful to meet a few parents (and a grandmother) who had come to see the hard work of the students. Kim had done a fantastic job of putting some final touches on the garden and ordering food!

It's been a wet and muddy week, much of the carpenty practical has taken place in the workshop this week. The group are involved in a project for the Cadburys Festival

Week 15 4-8th June

It was Queen's Birthday weekend so we had a day off on Monday. Tuesday was cold and wet, a small but gallant team continued to work on the tool shed.
Words from Jamie: Today we went over to the site took the boxing off to expose our concrete footing, then back off to L block to complete our framing! Next step is to stand the frames up, hopefully the weather will hold off for us..
