Week 11        7-11th May     Carpentry




1) Carpentry has begun this week. Write about what happened during the first 2 day of carpentry. Include details about
  • The choice of projects you were given
  • How the group chose which project to do
  • The health and safety aspects of carpentry that you learned about.
2) Assessment questions from Jamie
1/   Name 5 machines in the machine workshop?          
2/  Whats the maximum amount of timber the thicknesser can remove at once?           
3/  Name all the tools in your tool box?  


Week 12     14-19th May




Making wooden toys
Task 1

Write a paragraph about making a wooden toy in carpentry. Include details about why you chose that particular toy, how you made it, what tools you used, how long it took to make.

Task 2

Write a paragraph to review your project:

1) How successful was your project?
2) What went well?
3) What could you have done differently, to make it more successful?
4)Was the choice of toy the right one for the time available?
5) Overall, how successful was the group at making their toys?



Week 15     4-8th June

Post a sequence of at least 3 photos of something you have been working on in carpentry practical (if possible get someone to take photos of you working) and write about the process. You need to write a paragraph to go with each photo. It could be 3 steps you have worked on as part of constructing the tool shed.
These will then be printed for your assessment portfolio.

Week 16     11-15th June

Do some online research into sustainability and building. Find answers to these questions:
1) What sustainable materials can builders use?
2) What are 2 methods of sustainable building?
3) How can builders minimise waste during construction?
4) What features can be added to new buildings to conserve and use less energy?
